The school year is winding down, and it’s time to start thinking of some teacher appreciation projects. This ruler framed chalkboard would make a cute, custom piece of decor for any classroom!
I’ve been on the lookout for vintage yardsticks to craft with, and apparently, so is everyone! When I realized that it was going to take too long to find enough old yardsticks for a project I had in mind, I decided to make my own faux vintage rulers. As a bonus, by doing it myselI could make the rulers any color I wanted. This quick project is fun to make.

Supplies:
Step one: Dilute the alcohol ink with water. Spray some water on a craft sheet and add a few drops of ink. Paint the mixture onto the wood ruler to stain with color.
Step two: Use a dry brush to dust the Perfect Pearls onto the wet ruler. This gives it a nice metallic sheen. I coordinated my ink colors to match the colors in the aged patina kit.
Step three: Rub the Distress Ink pad on the ruler edges to give the rulers a distressed, aged look.
Step four: Once the rulers are dry, arrange them as pictured. Use the wood glue on the edges of the rulers. Once this is dry, flip the frame over, and glue the chalkboard to the back.
You can add a sawtooth hanger to the back to hang the chalkboard, or use the holes where the cord used to be.
In addition to teacher gifts, these chalkboards would be cute in a grouping to make a colorful organizational wall. You could have one board for each member of your family, or one for each day of the week. Since you’re staining the rulers yourself, you can make them in colors that match your home’s decor. Have fun crafting and creating!
