I found this like-new wooden stool at Goodwill San Antonio for just 3.99. I was using an old folding chair at my craft desk, so I snatched this up, knowing it would make for a fun project AND comfortable seating. With some Project Foam and fabric from P&B Textiles I took my plain wood stool from blah to wow! … [Read more...]

Make an Anthropologie Inspired Bird House Village
I love lots of color and whimsy in my backyard, and I'm (very) slowly putting together a garden area that's inspired by the Mad Hatter's tea party in Alice in Wonderland. When I saw this garden sculpture at Anthropologie, I knew it would fit in with my "fantastical" garden. The price tag ($498!!!) was wayyy out of my budget, so I made my own. Here's how I did it. … [Read more...]
How to Make a Dragonfly from a Whisk
It's getting warmer and I'm ready to head outside and do some gardening! I love to put fun, unusual critters in my yard, so I decided to try my hand at metal "art" (ha!) I used an inexpensive whisk to create this pretty, sparkly dragonfly! I found the whisk for just $1 at my local grocery store, but this would also be a way to recycle any old balloon whisks you have lying around. I was tempted to spray paint my dragonfly, but in the end, I left it silver. That's always an option, … [Read more...]
Make Cap and Diploma Graduation Party Favors
This post is part of a campaign with Tiny Prints and Looksi Square, but all ideas and opinions are my own. Child #3 is about to "graduate" from kindergarten, and I have to say that it's still bittersweet. I'm proud and happy for her, but sad to see my "baby" grow up so quickly. I imagine that's what it must feel like for those of you with high school and college graduates: a mixture of "yeah, we did it!" with "there s/he goes". As I've mentioned before, I tend to cope with mixed … [Read more...]

The only downside to this project is how easily tissue paper tears, and that can be frustrating to kids. Here's an alternative: make the flowers with rip proof, fray proof Oly*Fun fabric. The end result is beautiful and this bouquet will last a long time. Check out my short video tutorial: This bouquet makes a great mother's day or teacher appreciation gift from kids. They … [Read more...]
Knotted Bracelets made from Recycled Clothing
Here's a fun project for Earth Day: recycle torn clothes into cool accessories! To make these knotted bracelets, I used my children's old clothing. I always donate my kid's clothes to charity, but some items, like these leggings and jeans, were so stained and worn that there was no way to save them. Rather than throwing them away, I cut them up to make some pretty accessories! … [Read more...]
