Make Retro Inspired Viewfinder Pillows (with your own pictures!)
I've said it before and I'll say it again: I have a weakness for all things vintage and retro! I love bright colors, too, so I combined my two crushes into this fun, bright project: viewfinder pillows! I have very fond memories of squinting into a View Master and seeing images of my favorite cartoon characters and shows. As an homage to this retro "icon", I made my own fabric viewfinder with images of my favorite people, my four kids. (This post first appeared at Crafts Unleashed, where … [Read more...]
Make a Bird Feeder with Cups and Saucers from Goodwill
As a child, I loved Disney's movie "Alice in Wonderland." I was enchanted by the wild antics that ensued at the Mad Hatter's tea party, and always dreamed of how fun it would be to happen upon an "un-birthday party" in the woods. Now that I have kids, I've decided to create a Mad Hatter inspired garden area (see my teapot bird bath!), where we can picnic and celebrate un-birthdays. Best of all, I get to recycle items purchased at Goodwill San Antonio. (This post first appeared at Dollar … [Read more...]
Mirror DIY Using an Extremely Unusual Item…Can You Guess What it is?

This post first appeared at Dollar Store Crafts, where you can find my NEW tutorial every Tuesday! This project actually made it into DSC's top 10 posts for 2013. I had worried that people might think the item I used was gross, but I was happy to receive such a favorable response. I love that other makers can see the … [Read more...]

DIY Shadow Box Story Telling with Miniatures
Sometimes, crafts tell the story of what we love or have loved. That's what this shadow box does. (This post first appeared at Crafts Unleashed, where I am a proud member of the Design Team!) Shadow Boxes are a great way to collect and display special mementos that won't fit in a scrapbook or album. Last year, I shared tips on how to make a memorial shadow box, and I was touched by the responses it provoked. I have more of my dad's story to share, so I created this mixed media shadow box. … [Read more...]

Valentine Gift Holder Ice Cream Cone
This Valentine gift holder looks like an ice cream cone! As I've mentioned in other posts, I try to encourage my kids to make their own Valentine's Day cards. That includes making a special Valentine for the teacher. This year we'll be making fun faux ice cream cones that are treat holders! I used vivid colors from Apple Barrel Craft Paint to make this Valentine gift holder. If you've ever crafted with kids (or if you're an impatient adult like me!), you know that any project where you … [Read more...]
